EA Consultation – Kirby Misperton, Tuesday 16th June

keep km8 frack freeA public consultation on Environment Agency permits for fracking at the KM8 well in Kirby Misperton will take place at Kirby Misperton Village Hall on Tuesday 16th June, from 12.00 to 8.00 pm.

To quote the EA website, Third Energy have applied for “an environmental permit for the management of mining waste involving a waste facility, a groundwater activity and the management of naturally occurring radioactive material”.

There are a lot of documents relating to this application on the Environment Agency website, many of them very technical in nature. We have people looking through these and FFR will be providing guidelines on how to respond to the written consultation in due course. This consultation is open till 10th July, so we have some time to respond with due care and attention nearer the deadline.

At the public consultation, it is our opportunity to talk to the Environment Agency people about the EA permit application, and also about their role in general.

Topics you might want to ask about are:

– What the permits are for
– Why they are needed
– the EA monitoring regime
– Waste water disposal
– Water contamination and air pollution
– Chemicals used in the process
– Standard Permits and the EA view on Consultation No 11

If any FFR member would like some help with specific questions, please email us at contact@frackfreeryedale.org.
