How residents convinced W. Sussex CC to reject the application to frack

This page on the Friends of the Earth website explains how West Sussex County Council were persuaded to turn down an application for exploratory shale drilling.

One of the tactics used by local people was a video showing how unsuitable their roads were for large lorries. You can view the video and a powerpoint presentation given at the council meeting here:

And you can read the Friends of the Earth blog about it here.

You would need to be clinically insane to allow this to go ahead after seeing the video showing the transportation route. It was filmed on a nice sunny day – how will it be in the snow?
I am no legal expert but I think it not unreasonable that were there to be an accident involving one of these lorries then the council would be liable to prosecution for negligence.
It seems likely that were it to go through and an accident results the councillors responsible are unlikely to be re-elected or even spoken to by the electorate in terms that you could publish.

      Hi Bernie,
Thanks for your comment. Do you have any ideas/suggestions about how we might get councillors here in Ryedale to realise this?
