One of the most important ways to stop the fracking industry rolling into Ryedale is to object to planning applications. These are heard either by the planning committees at the North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) or the North York Moors National Park Authority (NYMNPA), depending which body has juristiction over the application.
Any applications for radioactive waste water disposal or groundwater permits are dealt with by the Environment Agency (EA).
We are particularly concerned about any applications for exploratory boreholes, which would drill down to test the Bowland Shale in preparation for fracking, and also any re-injection wells, which would seek to deposit radioactive waste water back into the ground.
To support our objections, we will often commission independent reports from experts in a particular field, such as geology, hydrology, traffic management, etc.
